01

Sweden and Denmark: the Union.

Sweden and Denmark both belong to the European Union. From Stockholm, Gothenburg or Copenhagen, the car travels with no customs formalities, carrying its registration certificate, and keeps its plates.

02

Norway: customs.

Norway is part of the European Economic Area, but neither of the Union nor of its customs union. A car leaving Oslo or Bergen therefore clears customs in both directions: export from Norway, temporary entry into the Union for repair, then the return.

A forwarding agent usually handles this, with the workshop’s detailed invoice. For re-import, the Norwegian customs authority, Tolletaten, is the reference.

03

Shipping your car.

Transport is arranged on request, there and back, from all three countries. The terms are set out in writing before each departure; for a car leaving Norway, the schedule allows for the customs crossing.

04

Winter, differently.

In the north, the classic car season is short, and winter roads are often salted. The cold months then become the time for the work: a full restoration, bodywork put right, or simply winter storage at the workshop, followed by seasonal preparation before the return.

A blasted bodyshell, like that of the 1967 Porsche 911 S Targa, shows corrosion without disguise. The metalwork is then repaired in bare metal.

On the Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda, floor and tunnel were primed, and every weld received a fresh bead of seam sealer, before the lacquer.

05

From afar.

The quote starts from your photographs and videos, then is confirmed once the car has been inspected at the workshop. Conversations are in English or French, directly with the owner of the workshop.

Photographs of every stage reach you as the work progresses: a winter project can be followed from Stockholm or Oslo, right up to the car’s return. Classic or modern, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz or Ferrari, each car is followed in the same way.

Your questions

Is customs clearance needed from Norway?

Yes, in both directions. Norway is not part of the EU customs union: a forwarding agent usually handles the declarations, and Tolletaten is the reference.

And from Sweden or Denmark?

No customs. Sweden and Denmark are in the Union: the car travels with its registration certificate and keeps its plates.

Can the winter be used for the work?

Yes. Storage, seasonal preparation and work are organised together: the car leaves prepared for the season.

Does the workshop deal with corrosion?

Yes. Bodyshell stripped bare, metalwork repaired in bare metal, sealing redone: corrosion is treated at the root, before any paint.
