Clients in the United Kingdom

London, Surrey or Edinburgh. Since Brexit the Channel is crossed with paperwork; the method stays simple.

01

Customs, since Brexit.

The United Kingdom is no longer part of the European Union. A car coming to Mougins for work therefore clears customs in both directions.

On the EU side, temporary entry for repair falls under a customs procedure. On the way back, HMRC provides a regime for goods repaired abroad, Outward Processing Relief; its exact conditions are HMRC’s.

02

A forwarding agent, a detailed invoice.

These formalities are usually entrusted to a forwarding agent. The workshop provides them with a detailed invoice for the work, item by item, used for the return declarations.

Shipping your car is simple: transport is arranged on request, there and back. The terms are set out in writing before each departure.

03

Historic vehicle status.

In the United Kingdom, a car forty years old or more falls, as a rule, into the « historic vehicle » tax class, exempt from annual vehicle tax. The DVLA sets the conditions.

A right-hand drive car is no problem at all for the workshop. It returns with its plates and its V5C.

04

The British marques.

Jaguar, Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls-Royce or Land Rover, classic or modern: the great British marques have their place in Mougins.

All upholstery is made in the workshop, and paint is applied in the booth, to the standard of finish these cars expect. Mechanical work, from diagnosis to repair, receives the same care.

05

From afar, in English.

The quote starts from your photographs and videos; it is confirmed once the car has been inspected at the workshop. You deal directly with the owner of the workshop, in English or French.

Photographs of every stage reach you as the work progresses. You follow it from London as from the English countryside.

If you spend time on the Riviera, the car can also remain at the workshop in storage and wait for you, ready to drive: one crossing rather than two.

Your questions

What VAT applies on the return to the UK?

With Outward Processing Relief, duty and VAT may be charged on the value of the work rather than on the whole car, provided the conditions are met. HMRC and your forwarding agent will confirm the regime that applies.

Do you work on right-hand drive cars?

Yes. A right-hand drive car is no problem at all for the workshop.

Does the car keep its British plates?

Yes. It returns with its plates and its registration certificate, the V5C. The work changes nothing in its status in the United Kingdom.

Do I need a forwarding agent?

Usually, yes. They prepare the export and return declarations, based on the detailed invoice provided by the workshop.
