Independent Bugatti specialist, from the Type 35 to the Tourbillon

Few marques have lived three lives as different as Bugatti’s. Looking after one means knowing which of them it belongs to, and being clear about what the workshop does.

What an independent Bugatti specialist can take on

Original Classic & Luxury Cars is an independent specialist, not affiliated with Bugatti. The workshop welcomes classic and modern Bugattis for inspection, upholstery, bodywork, preparation and storage. Some work on the Veyron and the Chiron, however, belongs with the manufacturer and its network, which hold the tools, software and procedures specific to these cars: we tell you so before any quote, rather than pretend otherwise.

In practice this is straightforward. We inspect the car, draw up an itemised quote for what falls to us, and tell you what should be entrusted elsewhere. Photographs of the key stages are sent to you while the work is under way.

Type 35 and Type 57: the pre-war cars of Molsheim

Ettore Bugatti founded his company in 1909 at Molsheim, in Alsace. The Type 35, introduced in 1924, is a straight-eight Grand Prix car, recognisable by its cast aluminium-alloy wheels with the brake drum formed as part of the wheel. It won race after race and remains one of the most celebrated competition cars of its era.

The Type 57, launched in 1934 under the direction of Ettore’s son Jean Bugatti, is a straight-eight grand tourer, bodied by the factory or by coachbuilders, the famous Atlantic among them.

On cars like these, every original part matters. The work begins with a documented condition report; conservation comes before replacement, and each step is agreed with you, part by part. If a mechanical task calls for marque-specific expertise, we will say so.

EB110: the Bugatti from Campogalliano

Between the two Molsheim eras, the marque was revived in Italy, at Campogalliano near Modena, by Romano Artioli. The EB110, unveiled in 1991, combines a 3.5-litre V12 with four turbochargers, four-wheel drive and a carbon-fibre chassis. The venture ended in the mid-1990s, which makes every EB110 a rare car whose parts take patience to find.

The workshop welcomes it for a full inspection, upholstery, bodywork after assessment, and car storage suited to a car that covers few miles.

Veyron, Chiron, Tourbillon: the modern era

Acquired by the Volkswagen Group in 1998, Bugatti returned to Molsheim. The Veyron, built from 2005, is powered by an 8-litre quad-turbocharged W16, with four-wheel drive and a dual-clutch gearbox. The Chiron followed from 2016, with derivatives including the Divo and the track-only Bolide. The Tourbillon, unveiled in 2024, pairs a naturally aspirated V16 with electric power.

On these cars, the workshop handles what it can do with certainty: a thorough visual inspection, upholstery, cosmetic preparation, paint protection film, storage and seasonal preparation. The W16 itself, the bespoke tyres and the electronics belong with the manufacturer. The same principle applies to other hypercars, such as the most exclusive McLarens.

Storage, upholstery and transport for a Bugatti

A Bugatti often covers few miles, which does not spare it from care. In storage it is kept under cover, its battery on a maintenance charger, its tyres monitored, and it is prepared before each outing. All upholstery, in leather or Alcantara, is made in our own workshop, from refreshing period trim to reworking a detail on a recent car.

To reach Mougins from elsewhere in France or Europe, transport is arranged on request, there and back; the terms are set out in writing before each departure.
